New report: Vermont real-estate market hits record lows

NEW YORK — The Vermont home-buying market reached record lows Monday, while the stock market also hit a record low, while other major indices also hit record lows.

The Nasdaq Composite Index fell nearly 3% to 4,721.80, its lowest level since April 19, 2009, as investors turned away from equities.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 10% to 16,619.94, its biggest one-day percentage loss since February 2007.

The S&P 500 Index of small-cap stocks plunged 1.7% to 2,908.80.

The Russell 2000 fell 1.3% to 1,945.77.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index dropped 1.2% to 3,527.30.
